Our Mission

“Hospice North Hastings is a non-profit community based organization. It is committed to providing support for terminally ill persons or those with life threatening illnesses, and their families. This service is provided by specially trained volunteers, working in conjunction with professional and family caregivers.”

What are your admission/referral criteria?

  • Resident of North Hastings
  • Have a life threatening illness or need grief/bereavement care

How would you answer the following question if asked by a patient, client, resident and/or family?

“What can you do for me?”

Trained volunteers provide emotional, spiritual and respite time for an individual/family who has a terminal illness. This can be provided in the home, hospital or nursing home. Some of the support that is offered includes:

  • Reading aloud, writing letters, companionship, listening, telephone support
  • Assist with light housekeeping tasks
  • Assist with meal preparation
  • Basic personal care such as simple back rubs, position changes and transfers
  • Bedside vigilance while caregivers are out or resting
