Our Mission

To provide leadership, advocacy and participation in the development and delivery of quality care, bereavement support and education.

Our Vision

Quality care for individuals, families and community experiencing a life-threatening illness, end-of-life and bereavement.

What are your admission/referral criteria?

Centre for Supportive Care - Anyone diagnosed with cancer or other life-threatening illness, friends and/or family and anyone grieving a death, either anticipated or sudden death and/or family and friends.

Hospice Residence - Life expectancy of 3 months or less when care cannot be managed at home and hospital procedures are not required.

Anyone can refer - Contact the Centre for Supportive Care and speak to the Counseling Team.

How would you answer the following question if asked by a patient, client, resident, and/or family?

"What can you do for me?"

The Centre for Supportive Care offers information, resources, day and evening programs and counseling anytime after an initial diagnosis of cancer or other life-threatening illness. Support extends to family members, caregivers and friends, as well as grief and loss support following a death.

There are specialized programs to support children and teens who are ill, are living with illness, or have had a death in their family.

Our free and confidential services are offered by a team of professional counselors, support staff and trained volunteers who work closely with hospital and community healthcare teams to coordinate care.

Counseling is offered to support people who need professional guidance. The team offers individual, family and group support and can assist with end of life planning, accessing resources in the home, referral for pain and symptom management and admission to a hospice residence.

The Irene Thomas Hospice is adjacent to the Centre for Supportive Care and offers 24 hour nursing care in a warm and home-like environment. Anyone wishing information about access to the hospice residence is asked to call one of the counseling staff at the Centre at 604-948-0660.
