National Hospice Palliative Care Week 2010 will take place from Sunday, May 2nd to Saturday, May 8th, 2010. Hike for Hospice Palliative Care 2010 will kick off the week on Sunday, May 2nd, 2010!

National Hospice Palliative Care Week (NHPCW) is a one-week campaign that focuses on raising awareness about hospice palliative care. It is also a time to celebrate, recognize, and share the achievements of hospice palliative care throughout the nation.

The theme for the 2010 campaign will again build upon the World Hospice Palliative Care Day’s campaign, “Discovering your voice”. Many people do not understand what hospice and palliative care is and how it can benefit people. Focusing on a theme whereby people living with life-limiting illness, their care givers and family members share their experiences and the importance of what hospice and palliative care means to them will help break down the barriers of understanding what hospice and palliative care is and how it can benefit people.

The Canadian Hospice Palliative Care Association, in conjunction with the 2010 National Hospice Palliative Care Committee, will be working on the electronic resources and a national poster that will be disseminated to programs and services across Canada in March 2010.

If your program or service is not registered with the CHPCA’s On-Line Directory of Hospice Palliative Care Programs and Services, please do so by visiting www.chpca.net/canadian_directory_of_services.htm and you will automatically receive a National Hospice Palliative Care Week package in March 2010.

Events that have been held in the past include: displays, workshops, information sessions, networking with provincial and federal level politicians, etc. This is a great occasion for you to introduce to your community the wonderful individuals in your organization who strive to provide Canadians facing death with the care they deserve.

The CHPCA is the national association which provides leadership in hospice palliative care and end-of-life care.
