CHPCA's February Hike Site of the Month:

Au Diapason Foundation, Bromont, Quebec

The Au Diapason Foundation's 2011 Hike for Hospice Palliative Care raised over $210,000! Not only did the Hike raise 33% of its annual fundraising budget, but the event raised Au Diapason Foundation's visibility.

Marie-Claude Gratton shared the Foundation's winning strategy with the CHPCA:

Forming a Hike committee made up of volunteers with contacts and specific knowledge, who participate and follow-though with an action plan is key. Also, the formula we used last year seemed to have made all the difference. We gathered 50 teams of 10 walkers, with each team having to commit a minimum $2,000 ($200 per person). We used the Hike website and e-blasts to market the event. Our Hikers usually didn’t have a problem raising their $200 and in most cases, surpassed it.

What we want to do differently this year is to encourage more walkers to fill out their information online by themselves.  Last year, we entered the information for those who had difficulty, but the task was barely manageable once the registrations really started coming in. That’s why we’ll be focusing on making instructions very clear this year.

Another tip would be to use whatever networking/contacts are available. We have a base of 150 volunteers, which helped us spread the word and even build a few teams.
